IVCVNDVM, mea uita, mihi proponis amorem 1 You promise to me, my life, that this love of ours
hunc nostrum inter nos perpetuumque fore. 2
shall be happy and last for ever between us.
di magni, facite ut uere promittere possit, 3 Ye great gods, grant that she may be able to keep this promise truly,
atque id sincere dicat et ex animo,
4
and that she may say it sincerely and from her heart,
ut liceat nobis tota perducere uita 5 so that it may be our lot to extend through all our life
aeternum hoc sanctae foedus amicitiae.
6
this eternal compact of hallowed friendship.
