NASCATVR magus ex Gelli matrisque nefando 1 FROM the unholy commerce of Gellius and his mother
coniugio et discat Persicum aruspicium:
2
let a Magian be born, and learn the Persian art of soothsaying;
nam magus ex matre et gnato gignatur oportet, 3 for a Magian must be the offspring of mother and son,
si uera est Persarum impia religio,
4
if the unnatural religion of the Persians is true,
gratus ut accepto ueneretur carmine diuos 5 so that their child may worship the gods with acceptable hymns,
omentum in flamma pingue liquefaciens.
6
whilst melting the fat caul in the altar flame.
