VRoma Open House and Building Party
We're hosting an Open House/Building Party in VRoma! This will be an opportunity to learn more about VRoma in the classroom as you help us build our next virtual site - Pompeii!
It's happening on Sunday July 30 from 10 AM - 12 PM US Central Time. If you haven't already done so, please register here.
For those who have registered, here are some resources to orient and guide you through the process of building in VRoma (Pompeii in particular).
First, if you'd like to know what to expect, you can take a look around VRoma in browse mode. Here's the link to Pompeii. As you will see, we have much building left to do in this space.
Second, our sources. We are basing our work on ancient sources, leaning particularly on these sources as collected by Jeremy Hartnett, THE ROMAN STREET: URBAN LIFE AND SOCIETY IN POMPEII, HERCULANEUM, AND ROME (Cambridge, 2017), Chapter 8: "A Contentious Commercial Street in Pompeii."
If you do not have this book in your library, here is a link to a PDF of this chapter and a quick summary by Ann Raia.
How to build? Take a look at our Guide to Building and Creating Objects in VRoma.
Finally, here is our new and very much developing Building Plan for Pompeii (we started in medias res, so all of this is subject to change as we as we refine navigation).
If (as you're reading Hartnett) there is a particular building, shrine, or other feature you would like to work on, feel free to contact us with your request.
We look forward to seeing you online!
