Lar veneration
Because the protection of the Lar Familiaris extended from generation to
generation and embraced all members of a household, it was important to
honor him to ensure his benevolence. In addition to daily offerings, the Lar
Familiaris was presented with garlands on the Kalends, Nones, and Ides of
the month, and he was also worshipped on occasions of special significance
to members of the household, such as births, comings-of-age, and marriages.
A bride, for example, made a special gift to the Lar Familiaris of her
husband's house as she entered his household.
