Roman Meals

This is a model of a Roman kitchen or culina.

  1. ientaculum = breakfast, usually bread and water or wine.
  2. prandium = midday meal, usually cold; maybe something left over.
  3. cena = dinner . The Romans' most important meal of the day.
  4. secundae mensae = dessert course

At first Romans ate in the atrium. Later they made a special room, the dining room, which they called the triclinium. Click on the word for details.
