Man is by nature a political animal.

This quotation is from Aristotle's The Politics. It is found in book one chapter two (Bk 1-1253 a 2-3). In this section of The Politics Aristotle writes that the state is created by human nature. He concludes that whoever does not find an interest in the government, is "a bad man or above humanity". Aristotle uses Homer to help support this idea. Homer calls a man that is without state one that is "tribeless, lawless, hearthless".
